Bank statement PDFs, ready to import into Xero.

For the periods a bank feed doesn't cover — before the feed started, a closed account, a bank with no feed — convert the PDF statement and import it into the Xero bank account as statement lines, ready to reconcile.

How it works

PDF statement to Xero in three steps.

01

Upload the bank statement PDF

Any UK bank. Purpose-built readers for HSBC, Lloyds, Revolut, Starling, Tide and Allica; our AI reads the rest.

02

Checked against the statement

The totals and the running balance have to agree with what the bank printed. If a statement can't be checked, or doesn't tie, it says so before you import anything.

03

Download for Xero

One click gives you a CSV laid out the way Xero asks for it — then import it into the bank account.

The file

Laid out the way Xero asks.

Columns

  • *Date — day/month/year
  • *Amount — one column, money in positive, money out negative
  • Payee — left blank, on purpose
  • Description — the bank's narrative
  • Reference — where the statement prints one

Why it looks like this

The column headings are Xero's own, so they map to Xero's statement fields on the first import. Payee is left blank on purpose: Xero matches Payee against your contacts, and a bank's narrative is not a contact name.

Importing

Into Xero.

01

Open the bank account

In Xero, from the Accounting menu select Bank accounts. On the account you want, click the menu icon and select Import a Statement.

02

Upload the file

Drag in the CSV from StatementPro, or select it, then click Next. If prompted, assign the columns and confirm the date format as day/month/year.

03

Review and complete

Xero shows each line before importing, and flags any that match transactions already in Xero. Clear any you don't want, then click Complete import.

Xero treats lines matching transactions already in the account as duplicates and does not import them — useful if a statement overlaps a period already imported.

Why StatementPro

Checked first, then imported.

Checked before it reaches your books

Importing a statement nobody has checked moves the problem into your ledger. StatementPro walks every transaction against the statement's own running balance and totals first, and tells you plainly when it couldn't.

Dates you can trust

Every date goes in as day/month/year. If a date can't be read without guessing — say, a statement that prints no year — the Xero file isn't made, rather than landing transactions in the wrong period.

Overlaps flagged

Convert several statements together and StatementPro tells you when two of them cover the same days, so the same transactions don't go in twice.

Private by design

The source PDF is deleted the moment conversion completes. The structured output is kept for 90 days by default (a year, if you choose that when you sign up) and is deletable anytime.

FAQ

Bank statements into Xero

What does the Xero file contain?

*Date — day/month/year; *Amount — one column, money in positive, money out negative; Payee — left blank, on purpose; Description — the bank's narrative; Reference — where the statement prints one. The column headings are Xero's own, so they map to Xero's statement fields on the first import. Payee is left blank on purpose: Xero matches Payee against your contacts, and a bank's narrative is not a contact name.

How do I import it into Xero?

Open the bank account: In Xero, from the Accounting menu select Bank accounts. On the account you want, click the menu icon and select Import a Statement. Upload the file: Drag in the CSV from StatementPro, or select it, then click Next. If prompted, assign the columns and confirm the date format as day/month/year. Review and complete: Xero shows each line before importing, and flags any that match transactions already in Xero. Clear any you don't want, then click Complete import. Xero treats lines matching transactions already in the account as duplicates and does not import them — useful if a statement overlaps a period already imported.

Will the lines arrive reconciled?

No — they arrive as statement lines, the same as a bank feed or a statement import, and you reconcile them in Xero as usual. StatementPro has already checked them against the statement's own balances, so the lines match the bank's record.

Can StatementPro send the lines straight into Xero?

Not yet. Today you download the file and import it. A direct connection depends on Xero, and we'll say so here if that changes.

Which banks does it work with?

Any UK bank statement PDF. HSBC, first direct, Lloyds, Revolut, Starling, Tide and Allica have purpose-built readers; every other bank is read by our AI and checked the same way. Statements that are scanned or photographed are read too, and marked for a closer look.

Can I import several months at once?

Convert them together and download each statement's Xero file. Each file is one statement for one bank account, so it always goes into the right account.

What does it cost?

The free tier converts 10 pages a month, no credit card required. Paid plans start at £29/month with pooled page allowances and no per-seat charges.

Also ready for QuickBooks, FreeAgent and Sage.
